Meet the Governors
Anita Whitehurst (Headteacher)
Eddie Kirk (Deputy Headteacher)
Mrs Diane Osborne (Co-opted)
I am Chair of Governors. I have been associated with St Swithun’s School for 35 years beginning with my two daughters attending the school. I then became a Teaching Assistant at the School – a post I held for nineteen years – and for the last nine years I have served on the Board of Governors. It has been a privilege to be a part of so many children’s education in Sandy. Currently I am the Chair of Governors which is a challenging but extremely rewarding role. Two of my grandsons are now pupils at the school.
Maureen Munro (Foundation Governor)
I am Vice Chair of Governors. In 2013 the Saint Albans Diocesan Board of Education appointed me as a Foundation Governor. In addition I am a Reader in the Church of England. An important part of my role is to encourage the distinctively Christian ethos of the school.
Miss Lorna Maydwell (Staff Governor)
I am currently in my second year of teaching at St. Swithun’s, having moved here from the East Midlands. I have been teaching for over 6 years and have a background in special education; specialising in teaching children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health Issues. I am a qualified SENCo and currently lead the Science curriculum in school. As staff governor I am responsible for ensuring that the views of staff are represented during governors meetings. I am passionate about supporting the school to continue to go from strength to strength.
Councillor Frank Firth (Local Authority Governor)
I am the Northill Ward member on Central Bedfordshire Council and I am the Local Authority appointed Governor, and Chair of the Finance Committee. I am also the LA Governor at Northill Lower School.
I moved into Northill in 1985 having served in the Royal Navy – Fleet Air Arm for 24 years, to take up employment initially at BAe Hatfield, before returning to the Ministry of Defence (Procurement Executive) in London. I retired from the MoD in 2003. My background is Aeronautical Engineering, and along with my Managerial and Administrative skill from the RN I have experience in Procurement, Project Management and Quality Assurance.
Mrs Julia Battersby (Parent Governor)
I am a qualified member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and have been a practising HR professional for over 20 years, with experience in the public and private sector. This experience in local government has provided me with a good understanding of the school environment, infrastructure and staffing arrangements. I am familiar in working with and interpreting policies, procedures and employment law. I currently work for the family business, undertaking consultancy work on a part-time basis, allowing me time to focus on the governors role. Mr background in HR helps me to contribute to the committees of the Governing Board and compliment the skills of other governors.
Mr Joseph Derilo (Parent Governor)
Mrs Zowie Salvatore (Parent Governor)
Mr Michael Scott (Co-opted Governor)
I have lived in Sandy most of my life and my four children were all educated in Sandy. I myself attended the old St. Swithun’s school which I have fond memories of and I really do believe children must enjoy school to readily absorb all that they need to. I am now retired from work but throughout my working life and as a Town Councillor those people you work with are vital to progress and now being part of the team at St. Swithun’s, although challenging is very worthwhile.
Revd Huw Davies (Foundation Governor)
Mr Nicholas Yuille (Foundation Governor)
I am a member of the Sandy Parish Church PCC and one of the School’s Foundation Governors. I have worked in higher education and currently teach modern languages in a secondary school in London. I have three children, two of whom are pupils at St Swithun’s.
